Cookie Policy
What we set, why, how long it lasts, and how to change your mind at any point.

The short version. Strictly necessary cookies keep the site working and are always on. Functional, analytics and marketing cookies stay switched off until you allow them, and you can change that decision at any time from the button in section 7 below.

2. What cookies and similar technologies are
A cookie is a small text file placed on your device by a website so it can recognise that device on a later visit or on a later page. Cookies cannot run programs or carry viruses.
“Similar technologies” covers anything that performs a comparable job:
- Local storage and session storage — browser storage. This site uses local storage to remember your age and location confirmation and your cookie choices.
- Pixels and web beacons — tiny transparent images used to record that a page or an email was opened.
- Device fingerprinting — combining device and browser characteristics to recognise a device. On a regulated gambling site this also supports fraud prevention and the geolocation check.
- Software development kits (SDKs) — components inside an application performing similar functions.
Everything in this policy applies to all of these, not only to cookies in the strict sense.
3. The four categories we use
1. Strictly necessary — always on
Without these the site cannot work, so they do not require consent and cannot be switched off. They handle session management, security and load balancing, remember your 19+ and Ontario confirmation so you are not asked on every page, store your cookie preferences, protect forms against cross-site request forgery, and support the geolocation check required by the regulator.
2. Functional — off until you allow them
Conveniences: your language, the last game category you looked at, layout preferences. Turning them off costs you nothing but a little repetition.
3. Analytics — off until you allow them
Aggregated statistics on how pages are used: which are visited, how long people stay, where journeys break down. Used to fix what is confusing, not to identify you personally.
4. Marketing — off until you allow them
Measuring campaign performance and, where you have consented, showing relevant advertising. Marketing is never targeted at anyone under 19, and gambling advertising in Ontario is subject to the AGCO’s standards.
4. Third-party cookies
Some cookies are set by other organisations whose services appear on or support this site. Where they are, they are only set after you have allowed the relevant category.
- Analytics providers — usage statistics (analytics category).
- Advertising and social platforms — campaign measurement (marketing category).
- Payment providers — fraud prevention during a transaction (strictly necessary).
- Identity and geolocation providers — verification and the Ontario location check (strictly necessary).
These organisations process data under their own privacy policies as well as our contract with them. Some are located outside Canada, which means the data can be transferred and stored abroad and may be accessible to the authorities of that country under its laws. 5. How long they last
Two kinds by lifespan: session cookies, deleted when you close the browser, and persistent cookies, which remain for a set period.
- Session and security — session, or up to 24 hours.
- Age and location confirmation — up to 12 months (stored in local storage on your device).
- Cookie consent record — up to 12 months, after which you will be asked again.
- Functional preferences — up to 12 months.
- Analytics — typically up to 24 months.
- Marketing — typically up to 12 months.
Deleting cookies through your browser removes them earlier, and you will be asked for your choices again on your next visit.
6. How consent works here
We use a prior consent model. On your first visit the banner appears and no functional, analytics or marketing cookie is set until you choose. Only strictly necessary cookies run before that point.
Accepting and rejecting carry equal weight and equal prominence. There is no pre-ticked optional box, no hidden reject, and no penalty for declining — the site works the same either way.
Your choice is recorded with a timestamp so we can demonstrate what you agreed to and when. Under PIPEDA consent must be meaningful, and under CASL marketing requires express consent — which is why marketing is never on by default.
7. Changing or withdrawing your consent
You can change your mind at any time, and it takes one click.
Withdrawing consent stops the relevant cookies being set from that point. Cookies already on your device can be cleared through your browser.
Managing cookies in your browser
Every major browser lets you see, block and delete cookies, usually under Settings → Privacy. You can block all cookies, but strictly necessary ones are needed for the site to work, and blocking them will break sign-in and the age confirmation.
Opting out of marketing under CASL
Every commercial message we send includes an unsubscribe link that we act on promptly. You can also withdraw marketing consent in your account settings, or by writing to privacy@ontariocaptaincooks.casino. Unsubscribing from marketing does not stop service messages about your account, which we are required to send.
8. Supervisory authority
Complaints about how your personal information is handled can be raised with our Privacy Officer at privacy@ontariocaptaincooks.casino.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC), which oversees compliance with PIPEDA and, together with the CRTC and the Competition Bureau, enforcement of CASL.
9. Updates to this policy
We will update this policy when the technologies we use change, or when the law or the regulator requires it. The effective date at the top of the page changes with it.
Where a change materially affects how we use cookies, we will ask for your consent again through the banner rather than assuming your previous answer still applies. Account holders will also be notified by email or on signing in.
